ANCESTOR RITUALS

The Importance of Appeasing Ancestors in Vedic Astrology

I am writing this note to my readers who are interested in Vedic Astrology and I thought that I would raise some fundamental questions about the correctness of astrology itself using Bill Gates as an example. Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955 at 21:15 in the city of Seattle, Washington. The following is his Vedic birth chart with the placement of various planets in different houses.

Why aren't people who are born at the same time and place as Bill Gates rich like him?

The most fundamental question to ask is the following. There are people in Seattle, Washington born at the same time as Bill Gates. Why are they not as rich as Bill Gates or somewhere near to him? One might rightly assume that some of them born at the same time may very likely be poor as well. The natal charts of all those born at the same time will be identical. If at all there are some changes, it will be in the placement of the Moon which is the fastest moving planet. Even the Moon stays in one zodiac sign for about 2 1/4 days. This is an inconvenient question for astrologers. Assuming that some one carries out a research project to collect all the horoscopes of people born at Bill Gates' birth time in Seattle and present it to a bunch of astrologers, how would they give their readings? Is astrology then a false science? No, it is not.

I have put the question to many renowned astrologers and no one gave me a satisfactory answer except one gentleman. His name is Unnikrishna Panikkar from Kerala in Southern India. Mr. Panikkar is a divine astrologer and he practices a special form of Vedic astrology called Astamangalam Prasannam. (B.V. Raman, India's most celebrated astrologer has published a translation of this unique form of astrology. The title is known as "Prasna Marga" in 2 Volumes). Panikkar told me that a person's chart should be read in relation to six generations of his ancestors - in this case, Bill Gates' father, his grandfather, his great, great grandfather, etc. going back six generations. The whole idea is that if Bill Gates is rich, it is not simply his doing. It is collectively the merit of six generations of his ancestors. Mr. Panikkar said that if your grandfather or great grandfather had been a bad guy who raped women and murdered someone or even deceived another, you end up paying for it.

To the modern rational mind-set this seems to be unfair, but that is how things work in the world of the souls. Mr. Panikkar speaks about a unique soul genetics which is similar to DNA inheritance. Astamangalam astrology is an amazing science, but unfortunately there are only a few who are good at it and it is difficult to get hold of them to give you a reading.

Does this mean that one is destined to difficulties and failures due to the karma and DNA of ones ancestors? No. The Siddhas of India have known for several millennia how to cleanse ones DNA of the inherited karmic dispositions. This process is called offerings to the ancestors, or Tarpanam. Every Eastern culture, be it Chinese, Persian, Greek, Indian has this concept of honoring their ancestors. Unfortunately Western cultures being younger have lost this secret in their development. Tarpanam will not only permit you to change the karma inherited from your ancestors, but it will also help the souls of your departed relations evolve in their journey.

The soul in relationship
The soul does not share the spirit's love of perfection and wholeness, but finds value in fragmentation, incompleteness and unfulfilled promise.
This is not to say that being soulful in relationship allows us to excuse ourselves, deny , avoid, dissemble, and exploit: following the lead of the soul become more responsive, not less, to those whom fate places in our lives.
Relationship is not a project, it's a grace. The soul of a relationship is not goal minded, nor is it any one narrow, clearly defined entity. A marriage may not have to live up to it's promises of lasting a lifetime in order to generate an eternal union. A family may be riddled with betrayal and misunderstanding, and still offer the soul the cradle it craves. Over and over again we can see when we constellate family the soul calls for respect for its autonomy and mystery. The soulful relationship asks to be honored for what it is, not for what we need or wish it to be. It has little to do with our intentions, expectations and moral requirements. It has the potential to lead us into the mysteries that expand our hearts and transform our thoughts, but it can't do that when our primary interest is in pursuing our cherished ideologies of love, family, marriage and community. The point in a relationship is not to make us feel good, but to lead us into profound alchemy of soul that reveals to us many of the pathways and and openings that are the geography of our own destiny and potentiality.
Ultimately relationship brings us to the brink of the ultimate family and the absolute lover, who is nameless and indescribable.
We get a taste of this eternal love when we experience an ending and glimpse the deep darkness of death that lies in it.

These fields are being described with the understanding that the mind is a field of awareness rather than an egoistic perspective centered within the individual.

Fields of the soul

I would like to say something about spiritual fields or I call them soul fields. The field in its original sense is an area with closed boundaries, where we sow and harvest something extraordinary. Something that is not measurable but that we are still able to experience.

The extended mind

The morphic fields as described by Rupert Sheldrake are these soul fields. Sheldrake speaks about “extended mind”. This mind is not only limited to human beings. Within

this extended mind communication, relation and perception is possible.

Field of Language

Language is obviously such a “mind field”. People who speak several languages could have the capability to sense a language field and are able to speak and understand the language of that particular field. If a person is in a trance and suddenly speaks a different language it is possible that they have entered that particular language field and are navigated by it. This also could be a phenomenon that appears in so called ‘past life transgressions’ where people speak in ‘tongues’. Within the concept of reincarnation we might have this experience and think it is our own field, but it is usually a “different” one.

Foreign fields

These “different” fields can draw certain people in and take possession of them without their consent and they are defenseless against it. We can observe this phenomenon sometimes with healers who operate on people with their bare hands without ever using a scalpel. During this procedure they are outside of themselves in a different field and when they ‘wake up’ they have no recollection of what had happened. It is possible that this is what happens in the soul journeys of the Shaman.

The creative field

Artists might have the experience that when they write or paint that another field is taking possession of them and the creative inspiration deriving from that field is guiding them in their work. There is also an extended version of this field and that is when we ask for guidance while reading tarot cards or throwing the I-ching. In this case the boundaries of time (present and future) are being bridged. It leads us into the area where we can have contact with our ancestors as well.

Disease fields

Certain diseases have their own energy fields. They can appear at different locations at the same time. If a disease gets healed through a new medication at one location, healing of the same disease can happen in the other locations as well, without the medication being present. Tuberculosis was one of the diseases that was observed to disappear after it was healed in a certain place. Within the field of disease we also find the healing properties of that particular disease. This could be a vaccine, herbs or other cures. If one has access to these fields one can find a cure. Bachflower remedies, homeopathy , mantras, mudras and the recitation of the names and numbers we find in the Kabbala are a part of a possible healing property.

More to come on the fields in family constellation…
